what type of catheter. There are many types. Some can be used to inject medicine directly into a patiens heart (normally for cancer patients) mostly they are tubes inserted into a persons body to take out or insert fluids
There is several kinds but the most common is used to drain the bladder. Both male and female sometimes need help with bladder relief, a small tube,is places inside the urethra and into the bladder on the end of it is a balloon that is inflated to hold it in place. Then a value is turned to release the urine inside. If it has been a while only no more than 500ml can be released at one time other wise the bladder will have spasms and that can be not only painful but also harmful to the person. I have had at least six time all because of surgery also wife is an RN.
It is a plastic tube, very small, that is inserted up the urethra when a patient has a health condition that makes it difficult for them to get to a bathroom. they can relieve themself into it, and it usually connects to a bag.
