Question: Need help with depression and anxiety.?
i used to have social anxiety disorder .
i got professional help for myself and i took anti depressants for 8 months.now i don't take them.
what things i should keep do so that in future i do not get depressed.

exercises ,diet ,any herbal medicines..........etc what things should e taken care of(other than medicines)?

There is always going to be a tendency there. That's something you have to come to terms with. However, the key is understanding why you have these episodes and learning how to control them when they start.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) works well in this situation.

There are no herbs that will really help. Some people with anxiety disorders find that caffeine and alcohol make the problem worse.

Exercising certainly helps.

I know what depression feels like as I used to suffer. But, unwilling to go onto medication I decided to heal myself which I did and then wrote a book called 'Beat Depression And Reclaim Your Life'.

You can heal yourself and my top tip is to Surrender. What does this mean? Stop fighting it and completely accept you're depressed. Take time out, climb into bed, hide from the world, walk around not trying to be happy for the benefit of others. Just totally accept your depression. I promise you that after a few hours, days or weeks, you will begin to come out of the gloom. Trying to fight it or deny it is like pushing wet sand....it just doesn't work.

Hi Sameer, life is pretty tough sometimes for young people you are trying to find your way in the world and sometimes you get mixed up on how to go about doing it. It's a good thing that you recognized your depression and got help for it and I am so happy that you are doing so well and that you no longer need or want to take medication for it, that is so smart of you. Sameer you ask what you could do in the event that you should become depressed again in the future, now here's my suggestion it is to keep your mind and body busy and if you are old enough to get a part time job then do that, and also what I think is the very best exercise is to start running. When I was a young girl I started running, I also taught my children this that running clears your mind of worry plus it strengthens your body. Also get a good nights sleep, eat healthy... lots of vegetables, surround yourself with positive people and don't allow your mind to wander to any thing that is unpleasant. I don't know what kind of herbal medicines to recommend for you but you can go in the internet and research those, one of your posters on here (Milo) suggested you take Alprazolam that's a drug known as Zanax, please do not take that its a narcotic and addictive. Good luck to you and I will be thinking about you and because you did ask for suggestions I would like to make one more, and that is when things begin to bother you then ask God to give you peace, prayer is very important in our every day life.
