Will my MMJ rec show up in a background check for nursing school?!

Question: Will my MMJ rec show up in a background check for nursing school?
I got my Medical Marijuana recommendation in October and recently became interested in entering nursing school. Cal States and UC's all say that upon entry, you are subject to a background check. I was wondering if the rec will come up on said background check, since it is a criminal record and medical history check. Don't give me the whole "your medical records are legally protected" shpiel because I know that, but this is for NURSING school so it makes sense that they would be able to access all of your medical record since you will be assisting people with their own health. Thank you!

Answers:

Medical discrimination is illegal and the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act (HIPPA) should have you covered. It protects your medical information to a large extent. Medical cannabis has nothing to do with a criminal record. Medical cannabis recommendations aren't stored on a medical back round network, but based on what you put in your question I had assumed you would know that. Try just authorizing the release of records to a doctor you see that has no part or knowledge in your cannabis matters, or, if you do not have that option, do the release in person with your medical provider, excluding cannabis matters.

additional details: I didn't mean to come off the way I did, but I think they would mainly care about if you had some infectious disease(s) that could readily be spread to patients, and probably mental health history to be more certain you won't go loopy while caring for another particularly needy or bothersome patient. As for the medical records protected, you should look up the HIPPA details and you will likely find greater piece of mind. I have a medical cannabis recommendation in WA and have done records release in many scenarios - always the form has an option to be more specific. Good luck with your career interest and with your qualifying condition(s).
