How long does it take metamucil to work?!

Question: How long does it take metamucil to work?
I took metamucil about an hour and a half ago and still haven't felt that I needed to go yet. How long will it take to work. I've been constipated for weeks and really want to empty out my colon. I can actually feel the heaviness of it in my stomach. so please, when would it begin to work and if it doesn't work do I need to take any dose?

Metamucil isn't a laxative... it's fiber. As far as your body is concerned, it's like eating a handfull of grains, pasta, or any other high-fiber food.

If you've been constipated for weeks, it will help to take Metamucil or similar fiber product every day and drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glass per day would be a good starting point), but it's not a 1-time shot. Constipation can be caused by dehydration, several types of foods (cheese and dairy, for example), and many different drugs... by finding the cause of your constipation, you'll be able to find what will take care of it much sooner, but drinking plenty of water and increasing your fiber intake helps in most all situations. Good luck and I hope I helped!

[edit]: With any fiber product, you need to take it on a regular basis to keep the benefits up... the first dose is always the most uncomfortable because it's pushing things through when your body isn't used to that. I would follow the recommendations on the container and take it daily for at least a week before making your judgment about how well it does/doesn't work... like I said, it's not a 1-time shot. ;-)

It takes 24-48 hours. Taking more might only make you more uncomfortable.
Make sure you drink extra water. Metamucil absorbs it to push things along.
