Which tea is better? white, green or black?!
Question: Which tea is better? white, green or black?
Someone that has some knowledge on this subject, can you help me put this debate to bed? Surely this is a cheaper version of the specialty teas such as oolong right?

I think green tea :)
Hi Gary,
Black, white and green tea all originate from the same plant (camelia sinensis) so to start off they all have the same beneficial ingredients (called antioxidants, more specifically catechins) to lose weight or prevent several diseases.
What makes them all different from each other is the fact that they are processed differently.....That's where you lose some of the beneficial ingredients.
Since black tea is the most processed one, the good-old antioxidants are converted into theaflavins and other ingredients giving the astringent taste to tea. Not unhealthy, but not doing as much for you as the catechins.
White tea is less processed and thus contains partly theaflavins, and other (less) beneficial ingredients as well as catechins.
Green tea however is the least processed (the original tea leaves are left intact for the most part of it) so it contains most catechins!!
More catechins means more weight loss and more health benefits!!!
Good luck!

None of these teas are going to actually result in weight loss, so just drink whatever one (or whichever combination) you think tastes best!
*Sigh*
If you put white and black tea together you get an antimatter explosion.
White is better then black.
i think for weit loss green tea is better.

I have researched this topic extensively. There is NO EVIDENCE that any one broad type of teas (green, white, black, oolong, Pu-erh) is healthier than others. Although there haven't been that many lab studies doing this, studies that have compared different teas for their antioxidants, caffeine, and other chemicals have found that there is a huge amount of variation from one tea to the next, but there is no appreciable pattern of one class of teas being universally healthier (or higher or lower in caffeine) than others.
You can read more about this here:

Does tea help weight loss? Maybe, but only a little bit, and there's only some weak scientific evidence supporting tea's use for this purpose. More on that here:

My advice, if you're going to drink tea, is to drink it because you like the taste and you like the way it makes you feel. Yes, tea is healthy, but it's not a magic pill that's going to make you lose lots of weight or become universally healthier. If you want to drink tea, your best bet is to avoid the companies that market tea as a weight-loss product, and instead seek out high-quality loose-leaf tea. The website I run, http://ratetea.net , is a good resource for learning about tea and hopefully will answer your questions in more detail than I can offer here. You can also find citations to studies about these things.
Good luck!
