I worked at a hospital & was told that anyone over age 60 had a health probl!

Question: I worked at a hospital & was told that anyone over age 60 had a health problem?
Is this from the mindset of most Americans & the drug companies, etc. or is this really true. Can't a person be in perfect health over the age of 60?

Answers:

Gross generalisations perpetuated by a biased industry.

My grandfather was still playing A-grade tennis well into his sixties. He had no aches or pains, he didn't take any medications, he just ate well, exercised well, and had great relaxed love of life. My grandmother is still powering on at 98. She had a very mild stroke about 10 years ago, but no after affects. She is still on no medications, is as sharp as a tack, and about to write her 3rd book.

The mind is an incredible thing. If you tell people that they will get sick or deteriorate, and that person believes you (subconscious mind), that is what will happen. It is also true that you can tell them they will be fine, but if they do not believe you, they won't.

Medical personnel are often highly trusted, so they need to be a lot more careful about what they say to a patient. It's a fine balance between giving information, and a range of possibilities, and telling someone categorically they are going to be in poor health.

In short, our bodies become less efficient as we age, meaning we are more inclined to get health problems.

The immune system declines with age.

Additionally, many diseases (e.g. arteriosclerosis) are a natural part of the aging process. BP tends to rise as we age. This is normal, however, to prevent health problems, and prolong life, they often require management.

It does not mean that you can't be healthy past 60.

Hehe!

I think that really is a nickle and dime semantics problem....how do we define health, etc.

Fact is, people wear out by the time we are 60.
You simply can't find an x-ray of someone that age that doesn't show some degree of degeneration......
Are some of those people "healthy"?
Sure. Are they in "perfect health",
Oh heck no.
However, is there something wrong with blood vessels wearing out, and causing us to require a blood pressure medication?
I don't think so....

I really do think it's a philosophical issue as much as a health issue, and I appreciate that paradigms guide our heuristics....but I try not to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Edit: you goof, ha ha.

lot of rubbish.i in that age bracket i do have arthritis but not as much as my 27 yr old son who is in perfect health.
