online/ distance reiki attunements? do they work?!

Question: Online/ distance reiki attunements? do they work?
where someone in a distant locality "uttaunes" a practitioner without actually being present with them.

note: I don't want any answers saying reiki itself doesnt work as the question is based on the premise of reiki possibly working.

pretty much only interested in reiki practitioners viewpoints.

Answers:

Yes, they do work although I do personally prefer to receive/give attunements in person. Reiki has been shown to alleviate the symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and pain conditions (esp in cancer patients). To see clinical studies, just visit this link:

There is growing scientific evidence that supports reiki as a therapeutic healing modality and it is used as a complementary tretament in many hospitals in the UK and the USA.

I hope these studies are useful to you.

Placebo effect is: evidence that the body can heal itself if the intention and belief is there to do so in the first place. Since reiki is all about learning to heal the self, you can why people get very confused between reiki and placebo. In certain situations, if you believe you can get better and that you can heal, you will do so. If a runner prepared for a race thinking to himself his chances weren't great, he probably wouldn't do very well at all such is the nature of his intention and poor belief in himself. However, if he had prepared for the race thinking that he had a great chance of winning, chances are he could win the race or at least come very close to winning (again, reflecting his intention and his belief about the situation). It is a very powerful tool for change and the true nature of the placebo effect needs to be researched when it comes to healing ourselves.

Is Reiki energy pain relief just a placebo effect?

'Researchers say "no". In the Journal of Complementary Medicine, researchers published the results of a study in which the results and responses of clients were compared to their initial expectations. The theory is that if Reiki energy pain relief were simply a placebo effect, only those patients that expected relief would report success.

In addition researchers measured the level of antibodies in patient's saliva before and after treatment. All of the results were compared to a control group that received no treatment.

Researchers found that the percentage of patients who reported relief of pain was much higher than would normally be expected from a placebo effect. 14% is a common percentage for placebo induced pain relief. 55% was the percentage of clients in the study who reported that Reiki energy pain relief was effective. Positive responses did not appear to be related to the client's initial expectations or beliefs.

In addition, the clients who were treated by the most experienced Reiki practitioners had significantly higher levels of antibodies in their saliva. The researchers concluded that the therapy effectively reduced stress and pain, while improving the body's ability to fight of infection and that the findings were not exclusively a result of the placebo effect.'

If you are only interested in hearing from true believers, you are going to get biased and anecdotal answers. What you should be asking for is EVIDENCE. And of course there is none - just like there is no plausibility.

In fact a 2008 systematic review of 'standard' Reiki clinical trials concluded that efficacy had not been demonstrated for any condition, and a 2009 review found that "the serious methodological and reporting limitations of limited existing Reiki studies preclude a definitive conclusion on its effectiveness."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19922…

Please note this part: "the serious methodological and reporting limitations of limited existing Reiki studies". So when certain Reiki proponents post their usual pile of bad pilot and preliminary studies you'll know. Like all quackery, clinical trials of Reiki have been small, badly designed, lacked appropriate control groups, or had other issues that affected how meaningful the results were.

Reiki has been around a long time - what's the hard part about getting a good quality clinical trial together that proves it works? Good reason to be skeptical.

If there is no plausibility for standard Reiki, and no evidence of efficacy, I hardly think distance Reiki attunement - which is orders of magnitude more complex given that new physics would need to be written and most of our current science would need to be thrown out - is going to work either.

Attunements seem to be just another way for so-called Reiki masters to extract money from gullible students.

-------
EDIT: to validate distance Reiki attunements, first Reiki in general must be validated. It hasn't been, as I demonstrated.

"Psychological level" = placebo effect. How does this apply to distance attunements?

You can't debunk something unless it is bunk to begin with.

Occam's Razor

There's no clinical evidence for reiki, this also includes psychological effects (if you discount tricking people into believing it has an effect of course). Therefore, purporting that this 'no-effect' can be sent online or over distance is of course nonsense.

Gary has ably explained the situation for you; that you do not understand his sensible post but choose to continue to believe in a fake treatment is a situation where the fault lies with you, not him.

Online Reiki: If Mohammed cannot come to the scam, then the scam will come to Mohammed.

I am a Reiki practitioner in Az. A few years ago while visiting my aunt in New York, she complained of knee discomfort.I offered to do some massage with Reiki. After a 45 minute treatment she still had pain so I told her that when I got home I would send her Reiki healing energy through my e-mails.
She contacted me shortly after a few e-mails and reported that her knee no longer hurt and said,'that Reiki stuff really works!'
Last year the same aunt came out for a visit and told me that she was planning to have a diagnostic procedure for her heart. Since I wasn't going to have time to do a treatment for her, I promised to send Reiki energy at the same time everyday. To make a long story short, the procedure went well and she is doing just fine.

The best way to know if it works,
is try and see.

Reiki is an Art, not a technique,
and you are the Artist,
part of the rules are yours.

Find the balance between Thy Will and My Will.

In addition to what Gary explained, you can say that online/distance Reiki is just as effective as bench side Reiki.

No, remote reiki attunements do not work.
