Why do my kidneys hurt after plow pose?!

Question: Why do my kidneys hurt after plow pose?
When I exit plow pose, my kidney area hurts in a way that feels like relief, but is akin to real pain. I thought it was just me because I have a very flexible low back, and thought maybe I held some tension or compression in there. Yesterday, my husband and I practicing together and he asked why he hurt the same way, upon exiting the pose.
Why is it?

Generally, yoga asanas should not hurt. Is it possible that you are not supporting your back properly when you are exiting? I suspect it is something like that, rather than tension. Check out this website to see if there may be a problem in how you are exiting, particularly with supporting your back. It may also be that you should do the prepatory asansa.

If it's not sore muscles, it could be energy being released. Yoga does that if you're doing it right--makes energetic blockages you have ease up and makes your prana flow more smoothly. The kidneys are where prana is most heavily stored. If you have pent up energy in your kidneys, the relief akin to real pain is what you'd likely feel when you're moving it.

I've experienced a similar feeling doing tai chi and meditation, and that's the cause for me.

Thats an interesting one...do you have back problems other times?

This sounds like it may be a back problem and not a kidney problem
