diphenhydramine or antihistamine?!

Question: Diphenhydramine or antihistamine?

So I have sleeping pills with 25 mg of diphenhydramine and I have nyquil with 6.25 mg of antihistamine I usually take 3 or 4 if the 25 mg but I took 3 nyquil with the intent to sleep. is 18.75 mg of antihistamine as strong as 100 mg of diphenhydramine?

Diphenhydramine IS an antihistamine...stick with that one if you don't need the additional meds.

Antihistamine is a drug *class*, not a drug *name*. Diphenhydramine is a drug within the antihistamine class, usually sold under the trade name Benadryl?.

18.75 mg is a weird number. What is the name of that *particular* antihistamine?

First you need to read the ingredients of the nyquil to see what type of antihistamine is in it. If they do not state which, it is diphenhydramine. That is the most common one in OTC medication. So the 3-4 25mg is stronger.
