I was told by my doctor that high blood pressure is for life and I would have to!

Question: I was told by my doctor that high blood pressure is for life and I would have to take meds until the day I di?
Answers:

There is a type of hereditary high blood that is present in about 5% of people who have high blood pressure. Usually, it doesn't matter if they are scrawny skinny, eat incredibly well and get a lot of aerobic activity - they have bodies that are 'calibrated wrong' for lack of a better word....You can get a second opinion from a cardiologist if you like, see if that is really the case, however.....

You might want to roll this over in your head... You might want to discuss with your doctor ways to reduce the side effects of medications you are using. Because I suspect that is probably more what's bothering you than anything. If you just don't like the fact that you require medication, well, I would reflect for a moment on all the people who have perished that would give anything to have a condition that is kept in remission by taking a daily medication.

I'm just giving ya some advice that has helped me over the years - sometimes I need help keeping my perspective straight when I've been handed lumps in life.

Be well

Unfortunately, your doctor is correct in this one. Hypertension is for life. Untreated hypertension will cause damage to your heart, eyes and kidneys. It also increases the chance for stroke. Remember that if any of these alternatives to hypertension medication worked, medicine would have incorporated it into practice long ago. If you do decide to try an alternative therapy, don't stop taking your medication. Be wary of scams.

I hope that aside from taking your prescription drugs, you are also exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet that is low on fat and salt. Ask your doctor about the DASH diet plan.

edit: Sorry, I forgot to say that secondary hypertension (high blood due to medical causes) can be cured but I doubt that this is what you have.

You can certainly reduce high BP a bit with a low salt diet combined with plenty of exercise but the reduction may not necessarily be enough so in most cases you would probably still need BP tablets.

To stop taking your BP medication could be quite dangerous. You will probably have to keep taking it for the rest of your life.

i dont think it is life long
but ya just try to decrease ur weight (if u r overweight)
stop eating junk and oily food(and even alcohol)
try eating brown rice, it is good for u
drink lotsa carrot juice
eat green salads
high BP is generally caused by stresses so give some time to ur tired brain to relax for sometime, say 30 mins& mediate
Hope it helps

Your doctor is a idiot, its doesnt have to be for life.
do you take Lisinapril? that is the best med for it.
I developed it do to marriage, then as soon as I left him it went away.
try anti anxiety pills too, they can make it go down also.

Diet, exercise and medicine. I have high blood pressure too. Growing old can suck at times.

The most common cause is being overweight. If you are overweight, then start there.
