Alternative migraine treatments (not pain killers)?!

Question: Alternative migraine treatments (not pain killers)?
I've had migraines for years now. They have now worsened to the point where I get them if the weather changes (which happens almost daily where I live) and when I cry. When I get migraines I have vomiting fits. So I'm basically forcing myself not to cry right now. :/

My doctor prescribed me Zomig, but it's for the pain. I was hoping to find something that works more for the inflammation, either to make them less intense or prevent them altogether. I want to treat the actual problem here, not mask it.

Does anyone know of any treatments that focuses more on preventing migraines altogether? I've already been getting acupuncture for it, but it's still not enough.

migraine is caused by hypoadrenia from nerve interference. see an hio method upper cervical specific chiropractor.

i am a chronic migraine patient. I am prescribed topamax and magnesium. Which are prevention meds...along with that im given butalbital(fioricet) as a "rescue" medicine for quick acting pain relief. ab 2 days out of the week my migraine is so bad i do cry..and im one that normally tolerates pain quite well. Just ask your doc for topamax if you havnt already tried it, it is a maintenance drug, which is good bc any pain meds you are on are just causing rebound headaches. I understand what you are going thru 100% and i hope you find something that helps. Good luck!

From what I hear, acupuncture is good for pain reduction.

I suggest you see a neurologist. There are several medications out there that prevent Migraines. I went from having migraines about once a week to only having them rarely now. I also can't take triptans, so prevention is the key.

I take Imitrex for my migraines and they help alot... It's not like a painkiller it doesn't make you dopey. I think it works pretty well for migraines. You might want to ask your doctor about it

Many migraine sufferers have benefitted from Homeopathic treatment. See a qualified Homeopath.

Have you noticed if they occur in relation to your meals / food types? To treat migraines, try avoiding nervous system stimulation from toxins. I had migraines. They were triggered by non-organic milk / dairy - sometimes hours after drinking / eating it. I have no problem with organic whole milk (only - the rest are not fully organic).

Another words you may want to try an elimination process.

1) Start with a full organic whole food (produce) diet that includes organic meat if possible. If not substitute organic eggs for a week. Depending on how often you get head aches, wait that long and see what happens. Once that time has passed, you may want to start adding non-organic foods back into your diet. Start with the whole foods and then work your way back to processed foods, if you choose. Or continue to detox.

2) While you're at it switch to unscented laundry detergent, rinse twice, and skip fabric softener from now on unless it's baking soda in the rinse cycle. Start with bedding and pillows. Then do shirts - the things closest to your nose and the quickest to get to your brain.

3) Avoid all scented products at home especially perfumes, air fresheners, hair products, shampoo, floor cleaners, window cleaners, deodorants,

I find it pitiful that neurologists only suggest pain killers. Sheeze!! Like you said you want to get to the underlying problem, not treat the symptoms. The underlying problem most likely is over-active neurons - a condition known as an autonomic neuropathy. That's something all neurologists should be experts at understanding. Pitiful. Neurons regulate body functions like blood vessel constriction and pain sensation.

Neurons can be injured or age. When they do, they become more sensitive to stimulation from toxins, which are found in both food and non-food products, especially the scented ones. When exposed, they fire more signals, which changes a body function. For instance, perhaps your blood vessel are overly constricting, which then causes pressure on those vessels resulting in pain. That's one example. What ever the cause, the treatment is avoiding toxins everywhere you can. This is detoxing.

The problem with medications is they contain more toxins because they are not organic and can down the road potentially cause more health problems later if not sooner. Those symptoms may be irritability, fatigue, depression, etc and you'd never know it's caused by the drug and then end up on another drug to treat those symptoms.

For more tips on detoxing, read online about chemical sensitivity syndrome aka MCS.

Additional info: If and only if on an organic diet, and you still need some support, I suggest you try the homeopathic headache treatment at www.newtonlabs.com. I am on a full organic diet. I use these products all the time and they work as advertised. They have been amazing. The web site sells these products, but they it also has a retail store locator. They have a product for Migraines. It's called "Headache". The link is below.

The book below, by a neurosurgeon, is about preventing health problems by avoiding neuron stimulants in processed foods Neuron stimulants, he shows, are toxic all at once or over time. Headaches are a common reaction to them. Treat migraines by avoiding processed foods.
