Is it normal for an EXTREME personality change?!

Question: Is it normal for an EXTREME personality change?
my son is an active teenager he does sports and plays outdoors with his friends and is extremely social with his friends. I recently took him to the doctor because he has had trouble paying attention in school. The doctor gave me some prescription drugs (cant remember the exact name) he said they would help him pay attention in school. While they are working, his grades have all improved his personality has changed. he gets up in the morning and goes to school, and when he comes home he sits on the couch until he goes to sleep. he hasn't gone out anywhere with his friends in the 2 weeks since he has been taking medication and he hasn't even talked with his friends on the phone. is this normal for attention enhancing drugs ?

You should read the insert that came with the prescription.

It sounds like the cure is worse than the 'disease'. But really, it sounds like your son is just a normal boy. Today's education system is designed for people who learn one way, and the kinesthetic learners--who tend to not be able to sit still or need to be hands-on to focus are labeled ADD or ADHD. Please research the drug your doctor prescribed online. Google the name of the drug and "adverse affects". Decide whether it's really worth the effects it will have on your son both long and short term.

Often, if the attention problem can be helped with simple diet changes--more protein at breakfast, eliminating wheat (for some children), eliminating white sugar, diet sodas, artificial colors and flavors, etc. This has worked wonders for my son--he is a different person when's he's off all the 'bad stuff', and a terror when he does eat it.
