My friend has cancer and I want to suggest marijuana but, . . .?!

Question: My friend has cancer and I want to suggest marijuana but, . . .?
My friend has cancer and I think marijuana would GREATLY help her. She is in hospice and has very little time to live. She is in constant pain and doesn't eat much.

I think that marijuana (as it helped me when I was sick) will really help her pain level and help her to handle being around people more (which really wants).

She and her family are very conservative Christians so I'm a little concerned about suggesting this to them.

Are there any websites or books or anything out there that I can give to her so that she can read more about specifically how it can help / has helped a cancer patient?

I think she would have more assurance and would be willing to try it if she were able to read something like that.

I know your question is about helping to releive your your friend's pain - but look what you have attracted by asking it in this section People with no knowledge or experience of cancer are recommending quack sites to you and suggesting your friend's cancer can still be cured.

Trust me on this one thing - not one of the people who has answered making recommendations for cancer 'cures' has successfully treated their own cancer in the way they recommend, nor do they personally know anyone who has. They simply have the ability to google and are rather gullible.

You would have done better to ask you question in the Cancer section. Some of the regular contributors there have used marijuana to ease pain and nausea, and would be willing to give their experiences if they see the question.

And anything your friend decides to take must be discussed with her medical team.

Meanwhile, please don't be deceived into having your hopes raised by some of the answers here. While there is ongoing research into the possibility cannabis (or rather man-made chemicals that mimic the compounds found in cannabis) as a cancer treatment, and some very small studies have had results which merit further investigation, there is no proof that marijuana has any effect on cancer.

My best wishes to your friend

I believe you should really suggest it. I smoked weed everyday for a year straight and there is nothing wrong with it. I realized that weed helps you be a better person, it helps you think more serious and be in a good mood all the time. If she doesn't have much time left why not? It won't kill her and it would probably slow down the time for her honestly. Time is so slow when you're high and you can enjoy the simple things.

I'm really sorry about your friend. Hoping that there is a treatment out there to help her with pain and appetite and quality of life.

You get your friend to ASK HER DOCTORS about medical marijuana. It is not indicated in all cases and can have negative effects. You, as a non-medical person do not get to prescribe medications.

Qualified doctors do not seek advice at quack alternative medicine forums. Just look at some of the answers - cancertutor.com is a pure scam, preying on vulnerable and desperate people.

I know your heart is in the right place, but you are going about this the wrong way.

www.cancertutor.com...thee are still about 10 ways that she can still survive, but the cesium I would look seriously at...about half of the patients survive even if only 10 days to live, if they don't the pain stops as soon as you start taking it.

lo_mcg is spot on.

I think you will get much more useful answers in the cancer section: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_y…
by people who have actually been in the situation you describe.

Show them this. It is a video made by a man who cured his cancer using marijuana. Marijuana saved his life.

Sorry I don't know of any specific reference materials, I just wanted to say I support this. It really would help.

I find a reiki practitioner who could do reiki for her. It is very calming and it can sometimes help to reduce the pain.

Using reiki to manage pain:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/97657…

A phase II trial of Reiki for the management of pain in advanced cancer patients:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14585…

Reiki is used in hospices/hospitals all over the world and it may be able to help.
http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/about-cance…

Christians can also use and benefit from reiki as well. Here is some more information on the subject:
http://www.thehealingco.com/Reiki_and_Ch…

I hope I've been helpful. I'm not saying reiki can cure cancer - that has never been proven and it would be very irresponsible of me to say so but it may help to relieve her suffering on some level.

My love and best wishes to you and your friend.
