The brain works on a series of electrical pulses. It operates at different frequencies during the day. At night when you sleep it operates at a lower frequency. Sound therapy is a way of stimulating the brain or relaxing it with different frequencies. Music is another way of doing this. The frequency of the music, (tempo or beat) will have a similar effect. Example: during the day, you brain is at 18 to 40 CPS. (Cycles per Second) While relaxing, going to sleep or waking up, you brain is at 8 to 18 CPS. Early stages of sleep are 4 to 7 CPS. And deep sleep is 1 to 3 CPS. This is why they can use sound therapy to induce sleep with some people. They slow the brain down and induce sleep. Hypnosis is another way of doing the same thing. Many Hypnotist use back ground music or sound therapy to help their client go into a relaxed state faster.
