yoga and vagus nerve?!

Question: Yoga and vagus nerve?
Does Right & Left Sympathetic nerves & Right & Left Vagus nerves refer to the same things. I have heard that Yoga particularly Pranayam has great beneficial effect on Vagus nerves. Would anyone please elaborate on the effect of Yoga including Pranayam on Vagus nerves.
Thank you.

Answers:

The Vagus Nerve exits via the jugular foramen and passes behind structures in the neck before making its way down through most of the internal organs inervazting them along the way. It starts as 2 branches in both jugular foramen and becomes 1 nerve. This controls the parasympathetic supply to the organs it innervates.

The sympathetic supply to organs and tissues is driven by spinal nerve roots innervating the symapthetic ganglion along side T1 - L2 of the spinal cord.

compression syndromes can cause problems with organ and tissue inervation either at the vagus nerve or along the sympathetic ganglion. These compression syndromes or impingements often happen by tightening and restrictions in the overlying tissues pinching these neural structures.
So yes Yoga can help to keep thees eareas unimpinged and free.
Right side, left side sounds more to do with chinese medicine.
I think your yoga teacher knows a little about A & P but fortunately not enough to make her dangerous.
