The only thing proven to cure a cold sore is L-Lysine. I use the powder, take some in caps & use some with natural aloe gel to make a paste and onto the lip. It instantly alleviates the pain/burning and sometimes (if it's just before getting one) it will not develop further than a tingling & it recedes.

If you need more info & would like to know how to get some for free email me. (I dont' sell anything and I don't need any your personal info. I just can give you the info & you research it and do what you want with it, get it or don't) :)

Abreva. I've used it, and it does work. It's not cheap, but it's cheaper than a prescription and doctor visit, and if you go to their website (linked below), you might even be able to find a coupon or rebate.
Expect to pay about $15-20 for it though, but it'll be enough to last you a lifetime of potential cold sores (which you will almost certainly flare up again at some point since you now have them).

In the future, if you have Abreva and use it when you think/feel a cold sore coming on, it'll prevent the thing from ever making a noticeable public appearance, at least in my experience.

I just let them go away on their own, and drink a lot of Orange Juice (to fight the "cold")

If you decide to gargle hydrogen peroxide (as one person recommended), be sure to do so safely (see my source).

if it's still under the skin but you can feel it forming use chap ice medicated balm, i used it when one was about to form and it was gone in a few days

Gargle with a capful of hydrogen peroxide several times a day. Be careful not to swallow any of it! It should be gone in a day or so.

Lysine is supposed to help.
