As in all autoimmune conditions steroids suppress the inflammatory process. Response hopefully produces a reduction is symptoms, ie blood, mucous and diarrhoea and a fall in inflammatory indices such as ESR and CRP.

Steroids aren't considered "alternative medicine". The long term side effects of steroids are really not good. You could google it for more, but I do understand that they suppress adrenal function.

I would suggest reestablishing your gut flora (good bacteria). Renew Life Flora More 12 Billion will do wonders for putting the good stuff back in. Completely avoid processed and non-organic food (white flour and rice, sodas, chips, packaged dinners, fast food, etc). Diet is at the root of treating this disease. Get a good Omega 3 Fish Oil (among so many other things, it fights inflammation). Nordic Naturals is a good choice here. Liquid over the capsules, it's more bang for your buck!
