Is it true that in one year mainstream meds manage to kill more people than all !

Question: Is it true that in one year mainstream meds manage to kill more people than all the people killed in wars?
I thought that they were suppose to be helping us. Why does no one say anything about these drugpushers.

No and as we have explained to you before, you have to take into consideration the amount of people who would have died without medical intervention. The number is meaningless without the denominator. In short, conventional medicine has saved the lives of many more

And by the way, this still does not validate alt.med.

@Nosey: If it weren't for asthma medication, many asthmatics wouldn't even be alive today, or would have reduced quality of life.

If it weren't for insulin, type 1 diabetics would die. In the case of type 2 Diabetes; first line management is diet and lifestyle changes. Medication is only needed if sugar levels remain high despite this. Without it, they would die and suffer health problems a lot sooner. The long-term complications of high blood glucose levels are damage to the blood vessels, increased risk of heart disease, eye problems, kidney problems, foot problems, nerve damage, and impotence, etc. Effective treatment reduces the incidence of its complications.

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events, ischaemic heart disease, kidney damage and eye damage, -it one of the most important preventable causes of premature morbidity and mortality.

While conventional drugs cannot completely cure these diseases (it is never claimed otherwise) there is no doubt that managing these conditions with drugs improves quality of life and prevents premature morbidity and mortality.

So, to suggest these drugs, "do little if anything to improve the well-being and/or longevity of people suffering with chronic diseases" is completely and utterly false.

In comparison, "Holistic" medicine has never been demonstrated to alter the course of any specific disease entity.

Probably true or close to it. No one says anything to these "legal drugpushers" because they are the ones who pay for the politicians to get elected, and because they make so much darn money off the drugs. However...no one makes any of us take these medications, that is where we still have some freedom of choice whether we will take them or not.

Shouldn't adverse drug reactions (ADR) be eliminated after the scientists performed extensive scientific research and testing on these drugs?

This is their very argument against alternative medicines, isn't it?

Turns out, even after tons and tons of scientific research and testing on drugs and mainstream medicine, people still die due to adverse drug reactions?

Apparently, Gary Y has never heard of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Below is a link to one of the most cited scientific papers ever published by JAMA. The study estimates 106,000 people die every year from ADRs (adverse drug reactions). This estimate is based on data from 1994. Since that time, the U.S. population has grown substantially, and the use of prescription drugs has skyrocketed (look it up, Gary). Thus, today, the number of ADRs leading to deaths must be a lot higher.

However, regarding more deaths than from wars, I have seen estimates (the leading historian Paul Johnson - "Modern Times") that 60+ million people died in WWII alone. It would take a lot of ADRs to match that number!

Best wishes and good luck.

some estimate about three quarter million in the u.s. alone die annually, mostly related to prescription drugs. the medical mind seems to find this not to be a problem at all, arguing that the lives medicine saves make up for it. remarkable ethics we have here. i suppose they are taught that as part of their medical brainwashing, however, i'm quite certain that if they tried that excuse in court it wouldn't stand up for two seconds.

No. During WWI 58,000 British alone were killed during a single day of a single battle, so you are certainly mistaken. I don't even come by here all that often and even I know this question is a broken record you like to play.

Evidence please.

EDIT: Thank you Dr J. 106,000 people per year is a lot less than ALL the people killed in wars. So my answer is no, it's not true.

The question is a false dichotomy anyway. Read Rhianna's answer.

According the old FDA researches, about 15% of patients at hospitals in USA had diagnosis of toxic poisoning caused by prescribed drugs/medications.

And a hundred years ago how many people died ever year of diseases?

Far, far more.

The annual statistics are about 100,000 reported cases, and it's been estimated that perhaps 10 times that may be happening but go unreported.

People running the drug companies are aware of the fraudulent nature of their business. According to Allen Roses, Vice President of GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, “Vast majority of drugs only work in 30 or 50% of people.”4 When he says “work,” I assume he is giving credit for even the slightest positive change, and not talking about resolving the patients’ illnesses – because essentially 100% of the drugs used to treat chronic diseases fail to cure the patient. Yet, the language used by pharmaceutical companies to promote their products might cause you to think otherwise. They refer to their drugs in ways that suggest their inventions commonly cure chronic diseases, by calling their products, “antihypertensive” and “antidiabetic” – as if these chemicals would eradicate hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes – maybe something like antibiotics kill bacteria and cure infections. The truth is, no doctor has ever seen a patient cured of high blood pressure or diabetes with either class of medication, no matter how much they might wish it to be otherwise. By and large, drugs do little, if anything, to improve the well-being and/or longevity of people suffering with chronic diseases, but are undeniably a direct source of death, disability and suffering.

Drugs kill more people annually than the casualties of the Vietnam war... but over time, they have killed more people than the World Wars.
The NCAHF was a fraudulent front group that shilled for the drug companies that tried to turn the health fraud of doctors overbilling/ripping off Medicaid into a campaign against alternative medicine. That fraud is continuously pepetrated by pseudoskeptics who aren't interested in the truth at all.

It's a fact that drugs can't cure anything. They can help in some cases in emergency situations, but they can't take credit for improving the quality of anyone's life in comparison to holistic medicine that can return someone to a healthy state, or better still, prevent disease.
