No. Antidepressants do not make you feel high or happy. When used properly in the right strength as prescribed by a doctor, they will make you feel on an even keel, neither high nor low. You will be able to experience either feeling as appropriate due to the circumstance you are in as opposed to just high or feeling up all the time. They can help to banish depression but would not be good for a recreational high.

they work on the same part of the brain, yes. that in my opinion is where the similarities end. I was prescribed SSRIs of various kinds on and off for 2 years and they always made me feel sluggish and drowsy and they had a similar effect on my metabolism in that i gained 30 lbs. X however, good MDMA, makes you very hyper and the effect is much more noticible/interesting/euphoric whereas antidepressants just keep miserable wretches like myself from blowing their brains out. also the half life is much longer in SSRIs and you typically need 2 weeks of steady doses for any noticable effect to take place

personal experience

Despite what the misinformed people above will say, MDMA (ecstacy) is actually similar in activity to the SSRI class of antidepressants in that both essentially bind to the same receptor sites, inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin into the axial terminal. MDMA does this in the short term and causes a dramatic effect flooding the brain with serotonin whereas SSRIs have a longer half life and thus the effects are less dramatic and longer lasting. If you are taking SSRIs you wont be able to feel the effects of MDMA, another indicator that both bind to the same receptor.

One exception is that MDMA is not similar to the MAOI antidepressants and could be fatal if combined with these.

Antidepressants don't do as much. They are usually used for people who have major depression issues

My smart self

Nope. Antidepressants won't kill you but ecstasy just might.

In terms of effects, they're opposites.
