you may take amoxicillin (generic name for antibiotics), 500 mg 3x a day for 7 days. you can get this over the counter but just to be on the safe side, be sure to consult a medical expert.

*I suggest cranberry tablets or capsules - the highest dose you can find - NOT cranberry juice (which is almost certain to contain a fair whack of sugar, which is acid-forming in your body - exactly what you DON'T want with a UTI) - Cranberry doesn't kill the bugs, just stops them being able to adhere to the walls of the urinary tract

*You also need vitamin A (to repair the mucous lining of the urinary tract, so the bugs don't have anywhere to get a foothold) - I would suggest at least 4,000 IU vit A per day - cod liver oil caps are the best source (don't look at the 'mg' figure, look for the 'IU vit A' figure(s)

*Drink LOTS of water

*Stay away from sugar and coffee (I disagree with the Coke suggestion) - they will acidify your system - if you have a UTI increased acidity goes along with it naturally - you don't want to add to that

To decrease acidity - you can take:
- Nat Phos 6x tissue salts (2 tabs hourly - buy at health food store or, possibly at pharmacy) OR
- Your pharmacy can give you something to decrease the acidity (called Ural here - not a drug)

*If it goes on for 2 days without improving you NEED to go to the doctor because you might need antibiotics - you don't want a retrograde bladder infection

*IF you do end up on antibiotics:
- take high-dose acidophilus tabs/caps while you're on the antibiotics (take at opposite end of day from the antibiotics)
- take a multi-B vitamin while on the antibiotics

I can recommend adding a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to a glass of water and drinking - do this three times on the first day (too much can give you the runs). This makes the urine more alkaline (or is it acidic?), and therefore it doesn't hurt to pee and gives your body time to fight the infection. Two times a day for the next two days should see the problem gone. Cranberry juice is the main natural treatment. I have also heard that Alka Seltzer works well too.

Lots of very stupid advice here that could probably kill you.

Cranberry juice may act as a PREVENTATIVE but NEVER a CURE.

If your UTI is not treated properly you could end up with kidney failure then only a hospital can save your life.

Don't be silly, go and see a doctor and get antibiotics before it's too late.

depends on how bad it is, but yes. if you can find cystex, that usually clears them up for me. there are a lot of over the counter meds that don't really help, but this one does. it actually has an antimicrobial. i used to get them a lot, and only once did the custex not clear it up, but that was a really bad one.

oh, apparently they've started making other stuff now, so make sure it's the tablets that say they have an antibacterial in them.

many years of uti's

Cranberry juice, lots of it and in addition, cranberry chewable pills. I also recommend garlic or garlic supplements (pill form). Garlic is a natural antibiotic. The garlic pills and cranberry pills should be available in the health/vitamin section of any chain pharmacy store.

Wear cotton underpants, and at night, try not to wear any. Watch how you wipe.

Drink a lot of water...no citrus drinks...no Mtn dew, it HURTS from experience.
Even though it hurts to pee you need to drink as much water as possible.
But sadly, you had better go to the doctor and get some antibiotics for it. It can get really serious if it goes without being treated.

You can't.

The bacteria get inside your cells. You can't flush them out. You need antibiotics to kill them. It will probably resolve on its own eventually as well.

Lucinda Walfurs has it right. Take her advise, plus drink lots of water. give her the points, she's spot on.

med field

Your body can clear it out on its own. I always hear that you have to get meds otherwise it will go away, but mine always do on their own, so they're wrong.
