*I suggest cranberry tablets or capsules as the previous person suggested - these will give you a much greater dose than the 'juice' (which is almost certain to contain a fair whack of sugar, which is acid-forming in your body - exactly what you DON'T want with a UTI) - Cranberry doesn't kill the bugs, just stops them being able to adhere to the walls of the urinary tract

*You also need vitamin A (to repair the mucous lining of the urinary tract, so the bugs don't have anywhere to get a foothold) - I would suggest at least 4,000 IU vit A per day - cod liver oil caps are the best source (don't look at the 'mg' figure, look for the 'IU vit A' figure(s)

*Drink LOTS of water

*Stay away from sugar and coffee (I disagree with the Coke suggestion) - they will acidify your system - if you have a UTI increased acidity goes along with it naturally - you don't want to add to that

To decrease acidity - you can take:
- Nat Phos 6x tissue salts (2 tabs hourly - buy at health food store or, possibly at pharmacy) OR
- Your pharmacy can give you something to decrease the acidity (called Ural here - not a drug)

*If it goes on for 2 days without improving you NEED to go to the doctor because you might need antibiotics - you don't want a regrograde bladder infection

*IF you do end up on antibiotics:
- take high-dose acidophilus tabs/caps while you're on the antibiotics (take at opposite end of day from the antibiotics)
- take a multi-B vitamin while on the antibiotics

What I do is get cranberry pills and take them 5x daily or whatever the bottle says. Additionally, I take just about every other supplement I can think of that might be useful: pro-biotic, Vitamin C and a mufti-vitamin. Also, drink PLENTY of water, and maybe a Coca-Cola. I swear by that stuff for some reason, I tend to think it kills off bad bacteria, diarrhea at times too. Sometimes that will fix the problem but don't wait longer than another day before going to see a doctor. In fact, make an appointment as soon as you start to suspect a UTI for 2 days from the time you call, and spend the next day treating yourself. It it works, you still have 24 hours to cancel your appointment.

If you start to feel sick (i.e. chills, fever, etc.) then whatever I said above will not work. See a doctor immediately. If you're elderly, do the same thing regardless of how you feel. Elderly people can get sick quickly and worse...die.

Experience and reading a bunch of news

Dilute that 50/50 with water, and drink the entire thing today...you want to make sure that your bladder is flushed out well. Repeat tomorrow if possible. At least make sure you drink plenty of fluids....

If in 48 hours you still have that feeling that you are getting an infection, get thee hence to a clinic, alright?

There's no guarantee it will cure it...and it depends on you, the infection, etc as to how much. When I get them, I try to drink cranberry juice in place of my usual water through the day. That usually helps the symptoms but I go to the dr for the cure.

Although cranberry juice may help a bit in some cases, in most cases you need an antibiotic.
