Valium and xanex are benzodiazepines that act on the central nervous system and GABA receptors. they are highly abused drugs..although they are not schedule I or even II drugs, they have a high potential for abuse. due to the fact it intoxicates much like alcohol does...they get you high, that's a simple and realistic reason to look at why they are "popular"

I am curious as to why people keep asking about mainstream drugs on the Alternative Therapies site

I'm not sure that it's actually 'popular' with those who have it prescribed for them.

But, PRESCRIBING IT would seem to be the thing which is 'popular'.

I would say that you simply aren't "wired" to enjoy it. Some people seem to like opiates, some like benzo's, some like things that will speed them up....

Some people prefer downers......
