What is a good alternative to sugar?!

Question: What is a good alternative to sugar?
I bought a product called " NuStevia" by "NuNaturals" at the health food store. The white stevia powder. Is this a good product to to use in place of refined sugar? Is there something healthier that I can use?

Those are supposed to be good but please do not go with Aspartame as it is deadly! Honey is an excellent sugar substitute.

There are several options if you are trying to get away from refined sugar. For baking I like to use granulated maple sugar, you can also use maple syrup, agave syrup, honey, or less refined cane sugar like organic sugar. Most organic sugars have been less refined/washed than the traditional white sugars that most people buy. It really depends on what your are cooking/baking or using for? I use agave syrup or maple syrup when I make my granola but if I am making brownies or quick bread I often use maple or organic sugar. It also depends on why you are switching. If it is because of health, like diabetes, than you need to stick with a Stevia blend or other low glycemic product. I would stay away from any artificial sweeteners like aspartame and Splenda (which has been molecularly changed).

Well here's what i think. A moderate amount of sugar is not bad in your diet but you are absolutely on your grind about considering replacing refined sugar with an alternative. Refined sugar is a drug, & at the same time, much of the sugar now is derived from genetically modified sugar beets. I would say use natural things like fruits, honey, & cinnamon to sweeten things up. :)

Stevia has some controversy behind it, a whiles ago, it was banned to b sold as a sweeten but was Allowed as a Supplement. So that's a bit sketch obv b/c i think they for some reason wanted to hind that stevia is a natural herbal sweetener.
The only negative things ive heard about stevia is that the FDA banned it & not really much studies can be reliable in the cases.
Personally, the fact that the FDA banned it to be sold as a sweetener but still allowed it to be sold as a supplement, means to me that stevia may actually be beneficial & the FDA might not want us to know, since using sugar & the things like aspartame benefit certain companies over others.

Anyhoo, i think stevia is actually the better alternative to fake sugar altho you should do a lil research on it.

Stay away from ALL other fake sugars tho, fo real.

Peace

Oh yes - Stevia is the only fake sweetener that Atkins likes for his diet. He's not a big fan of aspertame...

You can get Stevia in liquid form too, and you put it into your stuff with an eye dropper. It's an ok deal. Apparently you can bake with it too. It's a root from S. America which is ground up and apparently does not stimulate your body to produce insulin.... which is really a good idea.

There was one soda once which used Stevia - Diet Rite - but I think that food manufacturers have so much money tied up in pushing aspertame, that Diet Rite soon dropped Stevia in favor of their old favorite. So all of America is slurping down lots of aspertame which might create some interesting symptoms down the road for a LOT of people.

Aspartame (Equal?, NutraSweet?) is probably the leader in this category. It's comprised of two amino acids linked together, so don't believe the horror stories from the chemistry-illiterate.

Sucralose (Splenda?) is a close second; it works in situations where aspartame doesn't (high heat, pressurized soda fountains) due to aspartame being a protein and all. It's been around long enough for economies of scale to kick in and make it almost as cost-effective as aspartame; with these two on your side, you've pretty much got all your bases covered.

Stevia? is a highly-processed additive that has been shown to cause bladder cancer in rats. As its long term affect on human bladders is still being studied, I'd stick with things proven to be safe over long periods of time (sucralose = 13 years; aspartame = 30 years).

Stevia is a good choice, but there is little information on whether or not it is "good" for you. I use Splenda, which is sweet, and all research seems to be showing that it is not dangerous in any way. I would eschew using stevia until there has been adequate research to determine its safety. Good luck!

molasses but it might not taste that great in certain things. in fact im sure it would taste disgusting in most things. but buy something like "sugar in the raw". its much better than regular white sugar but the same flavors and same consistency

Raw sugar is better, or honey. The others have been developed to be many many times sweeter, by le drug companies. Some are said to cause cancer.

learn to cut out the foods that require refined sugar. Stick to whole grains for your carbohydrate needs. You will see a major difference in the way you feel. Good luck.

Stevia is ok, it just doesn't work in coffee and a lot of baked goods. I prefer Xylitol. Health food store should have it.

The 3 products that is leading the market for good sugar substitutes is stevia, xyltiol, and agave

Stevia should be a good substitute.

Aspartame all the way.

Stevia is the best, but Splenda is good too! Stay away from Sugar Twin though...
