Are there any positives or drawbacks to not taking medicine?!

Question: Are there any positives or drawbacks to not taking medicine?
when I get sick i rarely take medicine, really only when my parents force me too, being that i'm 19. is there anything that will benefit from this or does it just hurt me?

Answers:

There shouldn't be any issues with not taking medication when you're sick. However, if you are suffering from a bacterial infection, chances are it will take quite some time for your body to fight it off and, depending on the severity, not treating the infection with antibiotics could lead to very serious problems. If you are suffering from a viral infection, i.e. common cold, flu, no amount of antibiotics will cure it. You're best to treat the symptoms if necessary. My job as a pharmacist is to dispense medication but I think many people are over-medicated. I would never tell someone not to take life sustaining medications but one should not seek out more medication than what is necessary to treat their ailment.

I would say that depends on what it is your are suffering from. i dont really believe in medicine curing mental conditions but if its serious physical problem then yes its positive to take medicine then. colds? things like that your body can heal itself and quickly depending on how good your immune system is and your diet.

You're healthy now, that's why you can do what you've been doing.
But let's say you broke a bone and are hurting like hell. Would you refuse the pharmaceutical narcotics a doctor would offer? I know I wouldn't.

Well, if it's just to combat symptoms, the drawback is discomfort. If it's for something your body can't do on it's own, you risk not recovering.
