Dealing with your Ulcerative Colitis with herbal remedies?!

Question: Dealing with your Ulcerative Colitis with herbal remedies?
Diagnosed 3 years ago, and still looking for possible new ways to bring down flares. Lialda works but I do not want to be stuck on medications with absolute horrible side effects the rest of my life. My body has taken enough abuse from the medications and I am only 20. I ecspecially do not want to end up on Prednisone again, and/or Remicade.

So, my question is to those who have U.C., have you tried any herbal supplements or remedies? What were they? And how did it affect you and your flares?

Sorry to hear you're going through this. My cousin was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis several months ago and it was also painful for her with similar symptoms. I remember she went on some prescription medicine but it didn't seem to help and even made her symptoms worse...she tried some AloeElite product and she's been doing a lot better. I posted a few resources, hope they help...good luck!

"Breaking the Vicious Cycle was written by Elaine Gottschall, biochemist and cell biologist. It provides an alternative way to help combat digestive disorders using dietary changes; and also a practical book that addresses the problems of intestinal conditions such as: Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitis, Celiac Disease as well as less severe complaints like: indigestion, "nervous stomach", chronic diarrhea & spastic colon." >>> http://www.crohns.net/page/C/PROD/GOT100…

Your best bet is to work with a licensed professional.
www.drweil.com offers some ideas about what supplements are useful for treating UC or Crohn's Disease. The mainstay is anti-inflammatory diet. Andrew Weil's book, Spontaneous Healing, has an example of someone reaching spontaneous remission from Crohn's Disease. However, it is not a substitute for experienced professionals.

The professionals includes integrative medicine MD, naturopathic physicians ND (make sure they are licensed, licensed acupuncturists LAc. There are also chiropractors DC who specialize using nutritional approaches.

I have seen many people improve with Ulcerative Colitis - again my recommendation is to find a qualified professional in your area.

You might want to look into wheatgrass tea or wheatgrass juice for ulcerative colitis.

I had IBS which borderd on Colitis for 7 yrs (according to tests)...life was not fun. I ended up becoming an herbalist because of it, actually, because back then I got well with my own research and trial and error with different remedies. It can be done! Kind of difficult to say oh..'this exact remedy will work for you...as each person is different..however I would be able to narrow it down and at least tell you what I've used and recommend for others I work with. I also ended up treating myself a bit for anxiety as by that time being 'anxious' about my situation seemed to bring about the problem as well. Which makes sense. So herbal medicine and relaxation techniques worked great for that too. My email is on the contact page at my site... up to you to email. Otherwise look up herbs that are soothing to the bowel etc and start there. It can take a while, but it's worth having control over you life again.
