Milk, like all dairy is a protein, at least in it's most common/basic form. Of course many milk products, such as chocolate milk, are processed to contain sugar, which makes them very high in carbohydrates.
That said, whole milk is high in fat and one of the biggest rules about losing weight is that you should not drink your calories Although a bit of milk in your coffee is not a huge deal, it's still a few small calories that can add up. Stick with skim milk as an alternative and DO NOT put ANY sugar in your coffee. Be a man. Learn to like it unsweetened. Yes, eating a high protein diet is very helpful in losing weight because protein efficiently burns calories while carbs, such as sugars and breads, are harder to break down. So, even if they are not strictly sugar, such as that which you associate with sweets, they just kind of sit in your body and turn to sugar, which will make you gain weight. But, the caveat is, that high protein foods can also be high in saturated fat, for example a lot of red meat and fried foods. You should not eat so much of those things because they will raise your cholesterol and make you pack on pounds. The idea behind eating protein is to eat LEAN protein, like fish, chicken, other leaner meats, beans, and the like. And, a food such s pizza, which pairs fatty cheese ad often fatty proteins such as pepperoni with the bread, are basically bad for you.
On a final note, I hope you want to lose weight if YOU think you need to and you think it will make you all-around healthier. But, if you're gonna have a hostile relationship with your girlfriend and have this "screw it, I'll just order a pizza when se's not around" kind of attitude, then it will be hard for good to come from this. However, if she is truly concerned about you and wants to help you live a healthier life, and is supportive, then you and she can begin making good decisions that will pay off big time in the long run.
Best of luck.

Basic knowledge, been there, done that.

Man cannot live on protein alone. You NEED some carbs and fats in order to operate efficiently.

Further, the anti-carb lunacy is just another gimmick created by diet salesmen. There's nothing inherently wrong with carbs (or fat, for that matter) when it comes to dieting. Weight loss is a function of HOW MUCH you eat, not the nutrient composition thereof.

Milk has both Protein, and Carbohydrates. The Carbohydrates are in simple sugars, Lactose being the correct term for 'Milk Sugar'.

Anyway, if you're overweight, eat less and move more.
