I fell into the bad habit of sleeping at 4 AM and waking up at 12 in morning. Ho!

Question: I fell into the bad habit of sleeping at 4 AM and waking up at 12 in morning. How to change sleeping routine?
I want to start sleeping at around 9 or 10 PM. I once laid in bed for 2 and a half hours with out falling asleep and just got up.

You have to deal with it on the other side of the sleeping/waking cycle. That is, you have to force yourself to get up, even if you've only slept a few hours. It is the most undesirable approach, but the more effective and the quickest one. Might take a few nights though.

Simply trying the more passive approach of just going to bed earlier isn't very effective and has to be done for a much longer period of time...adjusting your bed time MAYBE 1/2 hour each time (after giving yourself a few days to adjust to the previous earlier bed time).

And expect to feel a bit lousy in the mean time (you will be creating an artificial "jet lag"). And to not fall back into having to retrain yourself again...stick with your adjusted schedule the majority of the time.

Gawd I can't tell you how many times my own son has had to go through this.

If all else fails, push yourself *forward* around the clock. In other words, go to bed two hours later each day. Within a week, you'll be going to bed in mid-afternoon. Soon after, you'll be able to "stay up late" and go to bed at 9PM.
