hell yea they get you high dude. Unless your son has severe anxiety and has them perscribed theyre being used recreationally. Nothing really serious will happen off small doses but xanax builds a tolerance insanely fast. Probably the fastest of all drugs and thats when it becomes a problem. It basically blocks blood flow to a certain part of the brain for about 12 hours giving a body numbing effects that feels freakin awesome. It can also cause severe aggression, it basically makes you feel mentally impaired but in a good way? hard to explain. I like it, id like it better if it didnt last so long but yea its a good feeling. In small doses just be glad your not finding heroin, meth, or even nyquil or delsym in his room. OTC cough syrup drugs contain high doses of anithistamine in MOST kinds (some dont have it in them and theyre way safe) which CAN damage the liver pretty badly. I still do them every now and then as an easy way to get high when i cant get anything else
