ANYONE WITH PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY TRIED NICOTINE THERAPY?!

Question: ANYONE WITH PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY TRIED NICOTINE THERAPY?
I have a hereditary form of Peripheral Neuropathy which causes fatigue and exhaustion, makes it hard at times to be as active as I want to be. I drink coffee which helps a lot......but, as I get older I think I need to add another stimulant.

Has anyone tried or heard how well nicotine (patch, gum, lozenge, snus......no, I would not consider smoking.) works to improve function/energy levels in someone who has a pretty bad case of PN????

Thanks very much!!!!!

Do you feel you have poor circulation, cold hands and feet, etc? That might only be made worse with nicotine.
Nicotine constricts blood vessels (vasoconstrictor). That might only make your condition worse as vasoconstriction is a known feature of peripheral neuropathy...

Coffee, by way of caffeine, might also make vasoconstriction worse as caffeine is known to have vasoconstrictive effects. What you gain in benefit for fatigue, you might lose in the effect on your peripheral circulation.

For fatigue and exhaustion you might be better off with B vitamins and the adaptogenic herb gotu kola. Gotu kola also improves the circulation. Vitamin E would further help the circulation. Other pro-circulation herbs include ginkgo biloba and ginger. Fish oil also improves the circulation. It is usually recommended to take a 2 week break after taking gotu kola for 6 weeks. Ashwaghanda is an herb that works similarly to gotu kola. The bee products royal jelly and bee propolis might also boost energy levels.

In view of your medical condition, and being on any prescribed medicines you will need to talk to your doctor or pharmacist first (but ideally your doctor) before taking any supplements. Especially with herbs, there is a risk for herb-drug interactions.

Best wishes.

If the body had enough B vitamins it could fix the nerves, thus, the body will use as much of you b vitamins as you can get from food. Thus, you'll have a b vitamin deficiency which of course will cause fatigue and exhaustion.

You do need specfic forms of B to get enough to repair the nerves, so most people with PN have b vitamin deficiencies.

It is becoming widely known that certain special forms of B vitamins have a lot to do with repairing nerve damage. Some people have tried large amounts of ordinary B1, B12 or B complex vitamins and they find that it does not help them. Ordinary B vitamins are water-soluble and they wash out of the body long before they get to the required levels needed in your blood stream sot that it can begin repairing nerve damage

I'm not familiar with nicotine therapy in association with peripheral neuropathy, but there has been a study about magnetic therapy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
