Rubbing alcohol and beer contain the same alcohol, ethanol. That is what gets you drunk.
PS to anybody reading below me... there are 2 kinds of rubbing alcohol - ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). Obviously I meant the ethanol... take a chem class.
Most of the companies (Herb Pharm, Gaia, Planetary, etc) use vodka, or brandy.
The herbs are steeped in them, strained out, and bottled.
The amount of alcohol per dose is usually about the same as 1/264 of a 12 ounce can of beer. Use that to form your decision. Also, you can cook off the alcohol by adding the herbal liquid to a small amount of near boiling water.
Also, if you need a liquid herb, some are available made in glycerin - not all herbs work well in glycerin - but you can look for them in the future.
And I have never, ever seen ethyl alcohol sold as rubbing alcohol - don't anyone ever reading this in the future try drinking rubbing alcohol - - it will make you go blind.
It is pure corn alcohol. Something like Everclear actually, and some practitioners actually use Everclear. So it is something like the alcohol in beer but comes from corn.
PS anyone reading the first answer.. do NOT ever drink rubbing alcohol, it is deadly poison and NOT the same kind of alcohol as in alcoholic beverages.
The alcohol used in liquid formulations is grain alcohol. It is not derived from liquor.
