"An approach to medical care that emphasizes the study of all aspects of a person's health, including psychological, social, and economic influences on health status."
In other words, holistic medicine treats the body as a whole, not just treating symptoms.

Someone who practices holistic medicine could cover treatments and practices over a huge range... Acupuncture, Acupressure, Chiropractic, Homeopathic, Herbalist (in some ways more than others), Naturopathic, Osteopathic, etc.

Holistic treatments aren't centered on one symptom or one part of the body, but treats the whole body so the person feels healthier in general or it allows the body to heal itself to remove a symptom. For example, if someone goes to a Chiropractor with a hurting foot, the Chiropractor may find a pinched nerve in their back that's causing the pain in the foot and adjust their spine to remove the symptom (I've personally had a couple occasions like this before, too). A holistic practitioner typically wouldn't just give you a pain pill to stop the pain (symptom), but would do something to help your body remove the cause of the symptom.
Because of that, each person's benefit may be different... some get more energy or a better mood, but most can just say they feel better in general. I hope I helped!

Health/nutrition classes, personal experience, and personal research

The word holistic comes from "whole", ie. to treat the whole person, not just standalone symptoms. It can include orthomolecular medicine which deals with the study of nutrition -- garbage in/garbage out. Many people suffer poor health due to a junk food diet. Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, and Chiropractic are others besides TCMAcupuncture. Many of these modalities can be used to treat serious chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, MS, cancer, etc. Some people incorporate them with conventional medicine and others use them as complete systems depending on their health problem.
It gives people a braoder choice in the type of health care and self care that they can use.

Holistic medicine to me means you are looking at reality as it is.

Holistic medicine doesn't look only at the body, but also at the thoughts and emotions as cause.

It is not a science. If it would be a science, all disease would disappear.
It's just a guide.
If we are not stubborn, we can use the guide to find the cause in us.
In the meanwhile we can use external substances to get rid of the symptoms.

Examples of what someone would do?
Depends on his UNDERSTANDING.

Some people see things on some level,
some people see things at an amazing deeper level.
But even then, it's up to you if you want to change or not.
Know that there are quacks around,
in everything, as well altMed as mainstream medicine.

About acupuncture, it can help.
But as I said, the cause is your thinking.
If you want to hold on the thinking that causes the depression,
that is you right.
It's not easy, some people need to change a lot of perceptions.
And often change is required to be slow,
fast change can cause weird effects.

More energy?
That is just a perception.
Normal energy means we get all the energy from the external things we can get.
Abnormal means we cannot.
The cause may be everywhere.
Not living the life you want to live causes fatigue.
Society throws at us the conviction that we should live the way the majority wants,
but we don't have to accept this lie.
Life is not 'easy',
but when you artificially (through external things like meditation, acupuncture, or esoteric stuff)
get to a point where you have 'enough energy' (if you make the right choice in actions),
life can be a lot easier.
If you have found your passion,
you can draw a lot of 'energy' from that.
Just be careful not to be too enthusiast.
Study some chinese Medicine to know
how the e-motions affect the body,
in order to balance the 'elements',
Try to live that knowledge
and you will UNDERSTAND.
