I have trouble swallowing pills

Answers:

Depends on the pill. A lot of the time you're advised not to chew, crush, or dissolve a pill because your body will absorb the medication much quicker and usually all at once. This renders it essentially useless if you're taking painkillers or any kind of medication used to suppress/enhance certain functions. If you want to get the most of what you're taking, it'd be better to follow the directions.

Unless rapid release is what you're going for.

Some medicines have special coatings that letting it dissolve in water first would inactivate. These coatings help the medicine to be released lower in your digestive tract to decrease the chance of stomach irritation. If you are asking about a certain medicine, call your pharmacy and ask a pharmacist if this is okay for your specific medicine. If not, the pharmacist will be able to help pick an alternative, like if it comes in liquid form, or if it could be compounded into a liquid.

Pharmacist

There are a few pills that you are not supposed to do that with, if it is one of those, you will find it on the instructions that come with your med from the pharmacy, otherwise, it is find to do that, just make sure you drink a little extra water so it all goes to your stomach...you can always ask your pharmacist about it, they know so much.

it definitely wouldn't if the pill is supposed to have delayed release(i.e. "long acting" "24 hour" that kind of thing) and even if it's not the case there's still a pretty good chance that it'll react to the water differently than it would your stomach fluid. If it's a prescribed med talk to your doctor to see if there's any alternatives.
