None. The nearest to this was the first successful ulcer drug, other than antacids, deglycyrrhizinated liquorice, Unfortunately it had numerous side effects mainly due to its aldosterone like properties. It was in common use when I was a student.

Once infection with helicobacter pylori has been excluded, (which is curable in 85% of cases,) either H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors offer excellent symptom relief and control.

The first H2, cimetidine, came out when I was in final year medicine, and revolutionised the lot of affected patients. Why spurn management that works and has minimal side effects?

GP for more years than I care to remember

if you google stomach acidity in some instances you'll find that it's actually caused by lack of or low stomach acid; poor digestion equals fermentation equals acid reflux. the "hay diet" is great for alkalising the body also low g.i. would help as sugars and starches ferment food and they degrade to acid byproducts. find a tai chi class as well on "tai-chi finder"- great for the digestion! in the meantime nettle or dandelion tea may help, all the best...

The best way to keep your stomach acid down is to reduce your fat intake. The traditional herbal remedies are peppermint (taken as tea) and ginger.

Your stomach is SUPPOSED to be highly acidic; that's what helps digest the food you eat!

"Alkaline eating" is a scam, btw.
