Will MELATONIN help with my NERVOUSNESS?!

Question: Will MELATONIN help with my NERVOUSNESS?
I have a speech tomorrow and I always get really nervous when I have to gives speeches. My voice gets shaky and it sounds like I'm crying. I can't buy beta-blockers because I don't have a prescription.

All I have is melatonin and when I take it at night it helps me relax. So maybe it will help with my nervousness? Thanks.

Ask your doctor for Pronanolol.
It works. Trust me.

I would try and do with out medication because it may become a crutch and you will never get over this low self esteem 1st sit in front of a mirror then take three deep breaths and relax and in a loud voice read your speech so that the people at the back can hear you. 2nd where commas are present in your speech take a deep breath at the count of 1, where there is a full stop in your speech pause for at least the count of at least 2.
The reason for the pause is when you write a story or a speech you are trying to create picture in the minds of your audience and this allows the picture to form in their head.
I can only show this by telling a joke
An old lady rings up the police station and complains that a man is exposing his self every night. so the sargeant said 'I'll send someone round', the policeman goes round to the old lady, and the old lady let him in.
'Now where is the man?she takes over to a window the policeman 'said I can't see him. (a long pause to let the picture sink in ) and the old lady said 'if you stand on the table you can see him.
I want you to say to yoursefI. ( I KNOW I CAN DO THIS) Good luck

No, melatonin is useless for nerves. Sorry. Go buy some kava do some yoga or something.

No, I have never heard of Melatonin used for 'spot-relief' of nervousness or anxiety. It is intended to help promote falling and staying asleep at night. In fact, taking Melatonin during the day may have negative consequences, such as affecting concentration or mental stamina.

There are a few herbs, herbal teas and supplements that may provide temporary mild sedative or mood-enhancing effects, possibly helping you out a bit for your speech.

The best herb for quick relaxation is Kava Kava, but we can rule that out for this instance since it's hard to find in land stores (readily available through the internet though). Also preparation is lengthy (requires a lot of kitchen time).

But most of the following can be purchased at your local vitamin or drug store, and each may help you get through your speech a little easier:

Valerian Root (herb). Valerian is a mild natural sedative. Take Valerian about 30-60 minutes before your speech.

5-htp (amino acid supplement). This is the "happy pill." 5-HTP has a solid reputation as being an effective mood enhancer. It boosts the brain chemical Serotonin -- normally produced naturally by the brain, but often missing from people coping with low moods or depression. Though it won't directly help nervousness or anxiety ... by reducing stress and improving your mood, you are indirectly putting yourself "in a better place" before your speech. 5-htp works quickly so you can take this about 15-30 minutes before speaking.

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid said to improve concentration, focus and mental stamina. Can be taken 30-60 minutes before your speech.

Inositol may show some benefit when you feel the onset of anxiety or panic attacks approaching, perhaps an option before your presentation.

The mineral Magnesium, and all B-Vitamins (especially B-6, B-12 & Folic acid) are known to help reduce and/or ward of stress. They're inexpensive and good to take anyway on a daily basis if you're prone to nervousness or anxiety.

As always use with caution or consult with your doctor if you're unsure.
