Question: Does alprazolam (Xanex) cause you to feel hot and shakey when you first take it?
I just got a prescription for .5mg of alprazolam and I have taken two on seperate occasions and for the first 30 min or so after taking it I feel really hot and my face gets red and I feel shakey and then after a while I feel really calm and it goes away....is that normal or do I need to stop taking it?

I just read two different pages on Xanax and it's side effects. Your symptoms weren't listed. The closest symptom I could find was "unusual changes in behavior or mood". You should call your doctor or quit the medication. Your symptoms sound like anxiety (which is one of the things Xanax is supposed to control). Assuming you're taking it for anxiety, if I were you, I would get Dr. David Burns' book "When Panic Attacks", which can help more than any medication.
