My son had the same problem and it was affecting all of his relationships. He finally got tested and was found to have ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). If that's not the reason, then perhaps you might try to get at the root of why you have limited patience with people. What is the specific situation(s) that make you start feeling impatient? If it is because you are waiting on someone to arrive at a certain time and they're not on time, then your impatience might be justified. Counseling might help some, but without knowing what triggers it, it's difficult to pin point what exactly you can do about it.

If you have a date and a specific meeting time, just get ready as normal. Do not look at the clock constantly. Hide it, if you need to. Hide your wrist watch too. Allow enough time for you to get ready, and then give it another 1/2 hour. Then if your date hasn't arrived, peek at the clock.

If they are late, give them a call on their phone to see if they are on their way.

Try to take a chill pill and get busy doing something else.

Realize that you are not nearly as special as you think you are, and all those people who are between you and where you want to be, have a right to be there as well, and they probably have just as many worries, and obstacles as you do.

It's called compassion. Compassion is one of the best tools against self-centeredness. Self-centeredness is one of the main causes of suffering.

Don't take my word on it. Buddha came up with the idea long ago.

Cut out some caffeine, realize that you are not the center of the universe, and the folks you are waiting on have agendas, too. Maybe you are more than a bit self-important and self-centered. Are you an only child?

Have studied people for 54 years

Cigarettes.

Seriously? Stupid question. Go to prison for 20-live, that will develop some patience.
