Tablet for vegetarians? Am I anaemic?!

Question: Tablet for vegetarians? Am I anaemic?
Recently, I am perfectly fine when I've eaten/had breakfast etc, but then as the energy (or whatever it is) has worn off, I become really either sad, blue, grumpy, miserable, anxious, nervous, or just really closed-up and unsociable.

I think maybe I've had this problem for a while, but recently I feel like it's gotten worse because I feel I need help or something.

I'm 18 by the way, and I've been a vegetarian since I was 14.

Am I lacking vitamins or something? I don't think a lot of people feel so awful when they're 'ready for lunch' or whatever, because I don't even have to be starving to feel so bad.

If I eat something nice and filling/wholesome then I feel happy again.

Please help!

Dear I eat the pool,
You need more IRON and PROTEIN. Try peanut butter on whole wheat crackers, and a bowl of cheerios or beans. Even broccoli has lots of iron. Good luck!

Its possible, but it sounds more like your sugar is dropping. You might be border line hypoglycemic or close to it. Try to eliminate high fructose corn syrup (that makes me grumpy and panicky like no body's business. It s way worse than sugar) and slow down on the sugar. Take care to get some whole grains into your diet and maybe throw in some more protein.
You should always take a multi-vitamin with plenty of iron and B12 since you are a female vegetarian.
Holy bail tea or supplements can help you with your mood and sugar levels too.

trial and error.

You can buy iron pills OTC at your local pharmacist. Take one a day.

Perhaps you're very sensitive to sugar. I am, and I feel awful if I eat anything sugary for breakfast--pastries, jam on toast, syrup on pancakes, or even breakfast cereal (all commercial breakfast cereals, even the "healthy" ones, are very high in sugar). It's like that: I feel good after eating, but crash a few hours later and feel awful. What you're describing, plus that you feel better if you eat something filling, suggests that it's the same with you.

My solution has been to strictly avoid sugar in the morning (fruit or pure fruit juice is okay, but nothing with added sugar). I also booted refined grains from my diet several years ago, and that's made a huge difference. Again, breakfast is strongly affected because it's usually full of refined grains: pancakes or bagels or cereal or toast, it's all made with refined flour. Better to make your own or buy 100% whole grain versions.

Short answer for what could be a detailed question, but sensitivity to sugar is probably it. Being a vegetarian probably doesn't have much to do with it, except that if you're a vegetarian, you have an even greater need for whole grains--so switching to whole grains will help with that, too.
