Is this way of taking vitamins better?!

Question: Is this way of taking vitamins better?
Is it better to take multivitamins or take the variety of vitamins by a category?

What I'm asking is: would I have better "results" if I would be taking things like for example iron, calcium, omega-3 than taking just multivitamins???

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. So it’s up to consumers to bring health concerns to light. “It’s important to understand the difference between over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements,” say Pieter Cohen, MD, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. The FDA gets involved only after the fact, if the supplement later appears to be causing harm. By that time, the supplement may already have harmed many consumers who used it. “The burden of proof is on the FDA to determine [a supplement] is dangerous and remove it from the market,” Cohen says. Consumer complaints are the primary trigger for investigations. One recent investigation of the dietary weight-loss supplement ephedra resulted in it being banned for sale in the United States.

China, which has repeatedly been caught exporting contaminated products, is a major supplier of raw supplement ingredients. The FDA has yet to inspect a single factory there.

We have identified a dozen supplement ingredients that we think consumers should avoid because of health risks, including cardiovascular, liver, and kidney problems. We found products with those ingredients readily available in store.

Because of inadequate quality control and inspection, supplements contaminated with heavy metals, pesticides, or prescription drugs have been sold to unsuspecting consumers. And FDA rules covering manufacturing quality don’t apply to the companies that supply herbs, vitamins, and other raw ingredients.

It can't hurt to take a multivitamin and mineral supplement, but make sure it's a wholefood supplement (i.e. derived from food-based ingredients and not synthetic as these can do more harm than good). This is fine for most people.

However, if you have specific health complaints, then you would be better off doing a bit of research on which supplements are useful as you are unlikely to get them in high enough quantities in a multivitamin. For example, if you think you are getting a cold, and specifically want to boost your immune system, you might want to take vitamin C, but a multivitamin will only have the minimum recommended amount of this so it would be better to buy it in isolation.

I personally prefer to take a multivitamin, I take Nature's Plus Source of Life. You really should research any vitamins as some brands are better than others. If you take different individual supplements you will have a ton of pills and not as easy on your tummy as a multivitamin.

Unless prescribed by a doctor vitamins are not necessary so will not make any difference whatsoever.

As you're leaving the house in the morning, take a generic One-a-Day? tablet and wash it down with a diet soda (or whatever).

That's it; you're done!

Its best to take a good quality multivitamin AND Mineral tablet each day.
