Here are a few suggestions.
Try to clear your mind by meditation, yoga, or reading.
Do not watch television as that is very stimulating.
Try to go to bed at the same time every night.
Do not eat any sugar 2 hours before bedtime.
Do not snack 2 hours before bedtime.
If something is bothering you write it down. Think about it for 15 minutes and in the morning ask yourself what can I do today to take away some of these stressors.
I also recommend some soft music.

Close your eyes and just think of random things. Shortly after you think "this is taking forever" you fall asleep. That's how I fall asleep a lot
This may sound very crude but, masterbate. It releases a lot of stress and energy =j
Try to stay awake.
