can fluoxetine tablets make you lose weight?!

Question: Can fluoxetine tablets make you lose weight?
I'm currently on 20mg capsules. I find I'm really tired throughout the day and i don't have much of an appetite. I'm really struggling to eat because i never really feel hungry even though i want to eat. If i force it down i just feel sick. I'm finding it quite hard to breathe today and I'm really worrying about it, i have to go to school next week and because i get nervous when I'm there, i find it hard enough to eat as it is. I want to stay on the tablets because i want to get better but if i tell my mum about this, she might want to take me off. Can somebody give me some advice on what i can do? Thanks.

Answers:

I used that medicine for about 5 months and it worked great and then I started to have similar side effects as you mentioned (but not the eating problem if anything it made me eat more) so if these are new side effects your not the only one. Regardless how long you have been using it you should tell your doctor what you think the fluoxentine is doing. There are other SSRI's (in my opinion) that are much better. There's also an herb called St. John's Wort you could try that's similar but with far less side effects. I currently use 1200mg of the standardized extract of this herb (capsules) which is a high dose but a happy medium dose for me. Hope this helps and good luck.

You should use acomplia, it is the best about it you can get information from here http://ansusmd24.notlong.com/3AASo94

prozac (fluoxetine) is an antidepressant and can take 4-8 weeks to reach therapeutic level in your bloodstream.
I don't know your age nor how long you have been taking it.
For some it makes them tired--so take it before bed, but with food, as it can upset your stomach! Even take some peanut butter--a glass of milk--crackers--something to coat your stomach.
For many , depression causes them to either lose their appetite or eat way too much--so your lack of appetitie may be from the depression and NOT from the medication.
Did a psychiatrist prescribe this or was it a general/family doctor?
Your psychiatrist should have you seeing him/her regularly. i would ask what you should do.
if you have been on it less that 6-8 weeks, I would keep taking it, and give it a chance.
Good luck.
