What Happened When You Took Accutane (Isotretinoin), Any Side Affects?!

Question: What Happened When You Took Accutane (Isotretinoin), Any Side Affects?
I am planning on taking Accutane, I will say that I am 12 and please do not be negative about this. My parents and I have talked about it and my mom and I are looking up information on the side affects, like if people had really bad drying of the skin or lips, if they had problems sweating, and about depression and such. I am very mature so I will handle it if you tell me that it is really bad, but if you have taken it, what happened and how did it progress. Please and Thanks!!! :)
P.S.- I have tried anything AND talked to my dermatologist about it. This is the last thing and I really need SOME feeling good about how I look. :( Please reply!!!

Answers:

i was on accutane when i was in 8th grade. I did a 6 month cycle on it. You have no idea what dry skin is until you are on accutane. My skin was so dry, it HURT. i constantly put moisturizers on, but my skin would still flake off. I had to learn a different way to apply makeup so i didnt look like a flaky monster. Also, my lips CONSTANTLY split open, flaked, and bled. I had chapstick and lip balm in every room of the house and had to put it on every 20 minutes FOR 6 MONTHS. Also, your eyeballs get really dry. i had to use eyedrops 4-5 times everyday.

But aside, from 6 months of absolute hell, it made my skin perfect. I broke out worse while i was on it, but about 2 weeks after i stopped the pills, my skin was perfect. so dont get frustrated if your skin doesnt get better while you are actually on it.

I'm a pharmacist, I took Accutane when I was going through puberty. I was depressed before I started taking it (because I was covered in acne). My depression got better when my skin cleared up.

Today, my face and body are very smooth (no acne scars). If you have tried 2-3 different topical products, and you still are not getting better, I would take the Accutane. If you feel badly, you should tell someone. Also, your parents should always be talking to you, trying to determine if you are depressed.

Good luck!

My boyfriend took accutane and the main side effect that he had was he did become very depressed. He acually started cutting and wanted to commit suicide. But his skin did clear up. So the depression can happen, but I wouldnt let it hold you back because acne can make you depressed too! Just make sure you keep in touch with a doctor at all times and tell people if you get depressed so maybe someone can watch over you to make sure you dont hurt yourself. Good Luck.

Accutane is very dangerous and was recalled in the US in 2009 and 11 other countries.

Hey,
Acne is so frustrating. I can understand what has driven you to consider such a risky treatment like accutanne.

We can feel so terrible about ourselves because we are trying all the treatments but nothing seems to work. I came to the point where I thought I had tried everything possible to get rid of my pimples. It was affecting me so much that I was willing to try anything.

Now that I have found a solution for my acne, a NATURAL solution,
I get so angry about all the garbage info and treatments out there.
Every time I see an advertisement for pimple treatment I feel this rage build up inside me.

As acne sufferers we are prime prey for companies to sell us a solution.

Just do some simple research of your own and you will find out the circle of half truths/myths and plain lies that fill the skin care & acne treatment industry.

I'll leave some info that I have found helpful and hopefully you can find a way forward that I doubt you have heard about or tried.

I had terrible acne from the beginning of my teens & tried the commercial approach...clearasil, neutrogena etc. Most of these techniques are only treating the "skin deep symptoms" and never go to the root cause. The beautiful faces on their ads will always hook us into handing over money for their product. But this will never cure acne completely.

All these "over the counter" treatments normally just use one of the two "common" ingredients any way. Check the key ingredient for yourself and they will probably use...
Salicylic Acid or Benzol Peroxide

http://bit.ly/Drugs_Info_Benzoyl_Peroxide_Side_Effects

What is really interesting is that these two products, while an effective way to treat existing pimples, actually create an environment to continue to bring on new pimples.
Great business model Hey!!! They keep us even more dependent on their product through the solution they provide!!!

Nothing gave me signficant improvement until I went to the doctor for antibiotics. There was a noticeable improvement but the side effects were annoying and as soon as i stopped the pills the pimples came back.

Before we take any pills from the doctor we MUST check out the possible side effects...
I didn't and I suffered for it!
The 2 common antibiotics prescribed are, Erythomycin & Tetracycline

So, the Dermatologist put me on Accutane (or Roaccutane) - Bad news! terrible side effects, significant decrease in acne, but the side effects really stuffed me up (Joint pain, dry skin, cracked lips, abdominal pain, etc - then Major Depression).

Since then I have only gone after NATURAL solutions... Best results by far and the only side effects... Healthier all round!!!

The Doctors & Dermatologist didn't talk at all to me about diet & nutrition/hormones or skin care techniques & routines. They just want to write us a script and say "see you next time".

When I went looking for a Natural approach and found
http://www.EliminateAcneCompletely.com
They pointed to an excellent skin routine and diet. They also provide a brilliant email counselling service for support. They really know what they are doing to help anyone cure acne completely.

But whatever approach you end up taking, please think about the long term effects on your health. Drugs & chemicals are always a gamble with how much bad side-effects you will suffer from.

More food for thought:
“The pharmaceutical industry has moved very far from its original high purpose of discovering and producing useful new drugs. Now primarily a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the US Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers, and the medical profession itself.” - Dr Marcia Angell, former editor in chief of The New England Journal of Medicine.
