Amino acid therapy? HELP?!

Question: Amino acid therapy? HELP?
I have had anxiety disorder..now have pure O (intrusive thoughts) for years and medications do not work. So I have decieded to do the alternative route. My ND put me on l-tryptophan 1000 mg and I noticed it caused me even more anxiety. I have only been on it for 3 days. Is this normal? Willl it get better? When does it start to work? I have asked my doctor about it and he said i could wait it out or try not taking it for a day and see if there really is a difference.

Answers:

You realize l-tryptophan is another medication, right? I thought is was for depression rather than anxiety - in any case the evidence is not very strong. I tend to think that if doctor prescribed medications don't work, naturopathic potions or treatments are hardly likely to do better. I'm sure your problem is not related to 'energies' that need balancing, 'toxins' that need flushing or 'subluxations' that need correcting...

Have you explored any psychological therapies or nutrition and lifestyle changes?

Amino acids do not treat anxiety disorders. For that, you'll need to talk to an actual doctor and/or psychiatrist who can prescribe legitimate medication.
