What is the best non-meat, non-animal product source of protein?!

Question: What is the best non-meat, non-animal product source of protein?
WebMD's Top 10 Protein Foods are:
1. Fish

2. Seafood

3. Skinless, white-meat poultry

4. Lean beef (including tenderloin, sirloin, eye of round)

5. Skim or low-fat milk

6. Skim or low-fat yogurt

7. Fat-free or low-fat cheese

8. Eggs

9. Lean pork (tenderloin)

10. Beans

I'm giving up all animal products for 40 days soon and can only eat # 10. The only problem is I really don't like beans (except coffee, but that doesn't count).

I like nuts but that'll get old fast. What are my other options? I don't want to lose a bunch of muscle mass.

Answers:

Go to a health food store they have many other options including different types of nut based-butter spreads [peanut, almond, hazel, etc.]
Naturally based pastas, veggies, etc.

Please Note: Should you find your diet too difficult or extreme, Sundays during Lent are not necessarily considered part of Lent. You could have some extra protein in eggs or fish.

You don't need protein to build muscle but it does help you stay full longer.

Nuts, and nut butters, soy and other beans are great protein. Whole grains are good for keeping you full as well.

Peas have a lot of protein!

You probably haven't tried every bean in every way.

They have fake meat products that have a lot of protein but I think those are gross anyway.

Eat lots of veggies and you'll be fine.

I've been vegan for nearly a year and haven't lost any muscle mass.

May be, its wheat. As, being an Indian or can say a vegetarian Indian wheat is one of the main source of minerals for us.
Wheat is a great source of protein, vitamins and other healthy things that our body needs to make our organs work.

You could use mycoprotein-based produce. Mycroprotein can be used as a protein-rich substitute for meats and dairy products. I'm sure your local Walmart or Asda or Tesco or whatever stocks either unaltered MP (for your own use) or MP-based foods.

I would suggest learning to like beans.
They aren't bad, it's how you eat them.
Vegetarian chili can be good.
Hummus isn't bad.
Bean burritos certainly can be yummy.

Many vegetarians eat beans as a substitute for meat protein I'm not too sure wats the best though

I like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and Edemame(soy in the pod) steamed or boiled.

peaaaanuts!
Protiennn shakeessss!

Peanut butter

Quorn.

Soy protein will be a "good" supplement and so will tofu. Both taste like hell. I don't recommend it to any of my male personal training clients as soy has the precursor to estrogen in it. This is why women who are pre menopausal supplement with it in there diets. They also supplement with SOY-isoflavone which is a hormone precursor to help with hot flashes and hormone imbalance. In high dietary amounts i.e. all your proteins you speak of, you are going to be running the risk of causing excessive aromatization. Aromatization is the process of testosterone converting into estrogen. This will severely impact your muscle mass, and can even cause gyncomastia worse case scenario, which is fatty deposits around the nipples (***** ****). A surgery is generally needed to fix this. The bioavailability of soy isn't very high either. Bioavailability is the acutal total of amount absorbed percentage wise of the protein itself. That's why its at the bottom of the list. You will never really see a jacked vegetarian male for a reason. Peanut butter is a good substitute but its loaded with saturated fats and the makeup of the dietary fibers in it will actually curb your appetite causing you to eat less. Protein is the basic building block of muscle so if you don't take in a high quality protein you mass will drop severly. If you do this for 40 days I would guess you would lose approimately 10lbs of muscle mass alone due to the soy and lack of nutrients. Why are you doing this diet?
