Non-medical remedies for colds etc?!

Question: Non-medical remedies for colds etc?
Where I work; a lot of people are taking medication. Some people have asked about things to take to help with cold symptoms that aren't your bog standard paracetamol, cough medicine, lemsip etc as it can interfere with their medicine. Does anybody know of some natural, herbal, or non-medical things people can use to ease the symptoms of general colds, flus, sore throat, blocked nose etc?

Thank you!

Answers:

Time.

The cold virus is self limiting and will resolve on its own. All you can do is manage symptoms with the type of drugs you mentioned. Cough "medicines" are worthless however.

Nothing in alt.med land will shorten the duration of a cold either.

Hi Nate!

As Rhianna has already said, (Hi sweetie!) Colds are self limiting viral illnesses, nothing affects their severity or duration, specifically not : oranges, lemons, grapefruit, garlic, honey, vitamins, including high dose vitamin C, zinc or echinacea.

Echinacea tea is a traditional 'go to' remedy for colds and other respiratory ailments.

A herbal remedy is just as likely to interact with medication as any other drug.

Hot liquids may give some relief.

Hi Rhianna!

Nothing that actually *works*.

That's why it's called "medicine", and that other stuff isn't.

A soonful of pure Honey every 4 hours is the best help for curing a cold. It is natures natural medicine.
