What are the steps to becoming an anesthesiologist?!
Question: What are the steps to becoming an anesthesiologist?
What should I do after I graduate HS to become one?
Answers:
During the remainder of your high school education, continue with your good study habits. Your participation in advanced science classes, including biology and chemistry, will also be beneficial for a medical career.
Upon entering college, choose a major that interests you. In addition, you will need to complete the required pre-med courses. Following four years of college and four years of medical school, you will have earned a degree as an allopathic (M.D.) or osteopathic (D.O.) physician.
As a physician, you will need to complete a four-year anesthesiology residency to become an anesthesiologist. After completing an anesthesiology residency, some anesthesiologists have additional training (called a fellowship) in a specific area of anesthesiology. These specialty areas include cardiac anesthesia, critical care medicine, obstetric anesthesia, pain medicine and/or research.
