Question: What is the most effective way of sucking on a cough drop to make it work the best?

I've tried 2 different kinds so far for my sore throat and cough. Right now I'm using cepacol sore throat + cough. It numbs my cheeks and tounge but doesn't do anything for my sore throat or cough.

I put it on the back of my tongue where it presses against the soft palate when my mouth is closed, then try to keep my mouth closed. It takes a long time to dissolve but seems to deliver more stuff to my throat.
