With sore throat and cough medicine you can buy at wal mart. I prefer Zycam.

I used Zycam once when I had a sore throat and cough and it worked the best. Oh, and I bought it at wal mart.

Well the sore throat will either be part of a cold and heal over time, or it will be something else and not get better. If you notice that after 5-7 days, your throat feels the same or worse, you should definitely check with a doctor. A good way to tell if you should see the doctor without waiting is if your lymph nodes are swollen. Lymph nodes are part of your immune system and are found on your neck under your ears and jawbone. If you feel around your upper neck and notice an inflamed or "bulged-out" area and it is uncomfortable or even painful to swallow, it generally means your immune system is reacting to some infection. If this is the case, you should see a doctor or visit a clinic.
For the cough, i think taking 2 tablespoons of Robitussin DM every 4 hours will provide good relief... even though it tastes nasty. For the sore throat, i personally think hot tea and regular sucking candies (i don't like cough drops) are soothing. Gargling with salt water (don't but too much salt in, though!!) and it will definitely provide relief, but it will be more temporary. Also, whenever your sick it's a good idea to be taking in a good amount of fluids - water, gatorade, juice, etc.
I hope this helps out and that you get better soon to enjoy the holidays!

Compresses made from bay leaf applied to the chest can relieve the congestive cough of bronchitis. Also, black pepper has been known to help cough. You can also steep ginger as tea to help colds, which might be the source of your sore throat. Use oregano as a mouthwash for inflammations of the mouth or throat, and use it as a tea to help the coughs of colds and whooping cough. Use rosemary as an antibacterial gargle for sore throats. Also, a fusion of thyme has been known to help bronchitis, colds, and whooping cough.
