How much "actual" Zinc in Zinc Gluconate?!


Question: How much "actual" Zinc in Zinc Gluconate?
I am interested in trying Zinc to clear up my acne. From what I hear, in order to do this the body needs 30-90mg of ELEMENTAL Zinc per day. I have bought a bottle of Zinc Gluconate. On the back of the bottle it says Zinc (as Zinc Gluconate 50mg 333%). The dillema is that I hear there is only 1.4 mg of actual elemental Zinc per 10 mg of Zinc Gluconate. So I would think 7 mg of Zinc is equivalent to 50 mg of Zinc Gluconate. I am very confused. I don't know if I should take one of these pills or 5 at a time. On the back of the bottle it says take one pill per day, but then again; they are not implying it for the use of theraputic acne treatment.

Ignore RA, she's clearly clueless and just guessing based on a website rather than an education.

Zinc glutonate has a molar mass of 455g. Zinc is 65g of this, so therefore is 14% by mass. You are completely correct to say that only 1.4g of a 10g dose of zinc glutonate is elemental zinc metal.

The USDA RDA is 15 mg Zn/day. Even lower levels, closer to the RDA, may interfere with the utilization of copper and iron or adversely affect cholesterol."

There's probably little, if any evidence that zinc intake will help with acne. Do not leave it untreated as it can permanently scar, your doctor can normally prescribe something to help.

I believe the 50 mg is elemental zinc. Based on this link, the label states 50mg of elemental zinc and in brackets (as 227mg of zinc gluconate). Elemental zinc is around 14.3 - 22% of zinc gluconate ...depending on which website you read lol. Edit: The RDA for zinc is 15 mg of elemental zinc per day so 333% of the RDA means the 50mg is elemental zinc.
