The method I recommended is to have a large board with all the possible medical diagnosis printed on it. By swinging a pendulum over the board with a pink quartz crystal as the bob it's possible to channel your chakras and by looking at the swinging bob invoke the ideomotor effect it's possible to make a highly reliable diagnosis.

There are many branches of alternative medicine, each having their own methods of 'diagnosing' illness. Some will read your 'aura', some will read patterns in your iris, some will use weird devices, some will use dowsing or wave crystals over you, some will just hover their hands over you. There are alternative medicine nostrums that believe all disease is due to blockages in 'energy flow' or 'subluxations' in your spine, so they don't diagnose. Homeopathy doesn't worry about diagnoses, it simply tries to recreate your symptoms by giving magic water which empowers your body's 'vital life force' to expel disease.

At the end of the day, it's mostly bullshit; they have no idea what they are doing, they are not medically trained, and they are only going to treat you with placebos anyway.

When they resort to lies or slander to discredit proper medical diagnoses, you know you have a con artist on your hands. So to answer your question, they use quackery to diagnose illness.

They're not trained in the diagnosis of illness, they're not qualified to diagnose illness and they do not have access to facilities, resources or professionalism to diagnose illness.

So what's left?

Well basically all that's left is guessing. Sure they may feel your pulse, attach fake machines with lights on them or look in your eyes, but it's all theatre.

Quite simply they don't know what to do so they make it up. Frequently they 'diagnose' fake conditions, prescribe fake treatments and then (after a couple of weeks) proclaim that you're 'cured'!

They get your money, you think you've been treated, sorted.

Holistic/natural medicine doesn't waste it's time hanging a name on a disease condition like allopathic medicine. Conventional medicine is more concerned with what they can call it than what they can do about it, which just boils down to suppressing symptoms with antibiotics, steroids and pain killers.
Natural medicine takes into account visible signs and what you report about what, where, when and how you are experiencing pain, discomfort, fatigue, etc. Based on training and experience, a natural health practitioner is able to determine what is causing the problem and designs a treatment that will eliminate the cause.
In many instances it's a patients lifestyle and nutrition that's the cause of the brunt of their problems. Conventional medicine doesn't address this because MD's are trained to dispense drugs. They get no training in nutrition.

They can usually only accurately diagnose the obvious, the rest tend to be wishful thinking or lucky guesses.

I might trust an osteopath to read an x-ray, but I don't trust ANYONE to diagnose gastrointestinal conditions with a wrist pulse (or an assortment of other quacky methods)
