If you get an okay from your doctor to break it in half, you can then mix it with some apple sauce to help it go down better.

Got pills the size of horse tablets when I was about 8 and there was no way I was swollowing them whole.

I'd have the same problem, especially with larger supplement pills. Just tiny little tricks help you swallow it whole.

?Drink water beforehand, moisten your throat.
?Try to position the pill with your tong so that it doesn't go down sideways if you can. This might take a few tries to get it right.
?Tilt your head down slightly as you swallow.
?Drink a couple swigs after, but not too much or that could inadvertent make you sick as well.
?Sit down after you take something until it settles (maybe a minute or so).
?It sounds cliche and old people do it, but it absolutely is the best method: Applesauce. It will practically lubricate your throat and the pill will go down easier. Just a spoon full before you take it works.

Accumulative knowledge/experience.

DO NOT BREAK THE PILL UP!! Unless the doctor/pharmacist has told you that it's okay to break the pill, if you break the pill it won't be adsorb as it should. It could been adsorbed quicker, which isn't a good thing.

It's all mental right now. Try filling your mouth with water, tilting your head back, throwing the pill to the back of your throat, and sipping a drink with a straw to help you put it down.

Taking a bite of food while taking the pill should help. Just be sure to swallow everything at the same time. Your gag reflex won't notice the pill going down with the food.

When I have trouble with pills, I put a pill in a small glass of water and chug it.
